Quartzite

Galapagos

Galapagos is a Brazilian quartzite distributed by MSI, quarried in Brazil and recognizable by a grey-green background crossed with thick waves of black and steel-gray striations. It is a true quartzite, formed when an ancient quartz sandstone recrystallized under heat and pressure into a hard, interlocking quartz matrix that resists scratching and etching better than granite. The name 'Galapagos' evokes the dramatic, untamed landscapes of the Galapagos Islands rather than the stone's Brazilian origin. Stone reads differently in person — full slabs vary in movement and tone from any single swatch, so we'll pull the actual slab for you to see before anything is cut.
