Quartzite
Calacatta Macaubas
Calacatta Macaubas is a Brazilian quartzite sold by MSI, quarried in the Bahia region of Brazil and prized for its soft white background swept with smoky gray veins that recall classic Italian Calacatta marble. Unlike that marble, it is a true quartzite, formed when a quartz-rich sandstone recrystallized under heat and pressure into a stone harder than granite and far more resistant to scratching and etching. The name borrows 'Calacatta' for its marble-like white-and-gray look while 'Macaubas' ties it to Brazil's Macaúbas quartzite district. Stone reads differently in person — full slabs vary in movement and tone from any single swatch, so we'll pull the actual slab for you to see before anything is cut.
